Ever since childhood I have been involved in the engineering industry, and it is one that I have grown to respect, admire and feel privileged to be a part of. From early memories of removing sand cores from their castings and sweeping up for my father at weekends to running, planning and looking after the wellbeing of a business supplying various sectors such as nuclear, filtration, aerospace and automotive. I am a committed individual who loves to put everything into my work. I am a hard working team player who can be easily integrated into a variety of roles, especially project management, coordination, planning and expedition. I am committed to customer service, helping them meet their goals as well as meeting my own. I pride myself on being able to form close, professional relationships with customers, enabling me to better understand their needs. I am punctual, polite and always dress smart. Learning quickly, but also never afraid to ask questions.

TecDot is a small machine shop based in Newbury. Specialising in parts for filtration, flow control, aerospace, automotive, machine tools and many more.
Responsibilities:
Production Management – Scheduling – Production Support – Purchasing – Supplier Management– Quality Manager (ISO) – Maintaining Close Customer Relationships – Problem Solving – Staffing – Bookkeeping – Credit Control
My role consisted of many factors from ordering material to staffing and bookkeeping, from coordinating part production to customer liaison. This job required me to be constantly vigilant when checking specifications and treatments required for each individually ordered part. I also maintained the company’s ISO status, both for quality and environment. I found more frequent, as the company has been getting busier and recovering from the hard financial times, I took the responsibility of running the company in the daytime while the director has been running the night shift.
Team Leader
British Gas
June 2007 to July 2008
This job was based leading a team on the telephones, dealing with the more valued customers in the “Premier Energy” customer segment of the business.
Responsibilities:
Customer Satisfaction – Targeted Sales and Customer Retention – Setting up contracts – handling customers’ money (sometimes £1000s) – Problem solving for customers and their bills – target setting – Staff Motivation
This position involved working closely with a team who are dealing with customer requests and problems within the customer billing and home moving departments. At the same time sales are a very important aspect of the job, my ability was directly measured from the team’s results. This meant that being very proactive was key. Setting manageable projects and targets were an important aspect of this job. I was required to have a high understanding of statistics and an ability to be able to recognise certain trends within the team’s results.
Deputy Manager
Austin Reed in Cardiff
September 2003 to July 2007
A high level of customer care required at this company. My previous experience held me in good stead at this company.
Responsibilities:
Made to Measure Service – Alteration Service – Shoe repair service – Customer care and complaints – Customers with a disability – Staffing care, holidays, and needs. – Weekly targets for the shop and staff – commission rates.
Being a more “desirable” brand I was required to be more tuned into my customer service skills for this role. Being customer driven was a main aspect as well as meeting targets set from the head office. Staffing was also very important as I was their deputy manager, I had to be approachable and understanding at all times, as well as being aware of my responsibilities. This position within the company allowed me to appreciate the effect I had on others by leading them as a team and producing results. I was entrusted with cash handling and banking for the store, sometimes very high amounts.
Section Manager
John Lewis Reading, Berkshire
September 2000 to September 2003
Being a Manager in this company had many responsibilities. This role was not just to provide the very best in service and contact for the customer but I had to make sure that I was providing 100% support for the staff.
Responsibilities:
Organising lunch breaks – Organising staff holidays – made to measure dept. – Managing and reporting to senior managers the departments performance over seasons and years – pinpointing specific areas in which the department had made a loss or a profit – Managing dissection performance – Managing staff performance – identifying key areas of improvement needed –Managing KPIs – Reporting progress to a crowd of managers in seminars.
I became a first aider and held the first aid beeper on a regular occasion within the company, however, I paid for this myself and was able to take this with me to my next job in Cardiff.
Because of my dedication to this role I was awarded a higher than normal authorisation level. This allowed me to work past the customers expectations. This was particularly helpful when I left the menswear department for the summer and joined the “back to school” team. This was a fast moving and exciting secondment allowing me to learn how to think on my feet and under pressure, prioritising problems, and motivating a team that had not necessarily worked for the company before (we employed temporary staff for that busy period).
I also wrote spreadsheet programs which focussed on the departments performance for both the season and the year. These programs looked at the department as a whole as well as each individual dissection. Then the spreadsheet would compare one department with all the others in the store and give a performance rating. I was awarded extra reward for this as the company took it on nationally.
My Hobbies and Aspirations
I try to make the most of my free time as I do with my work time. I enjoy going to the gym, meeting friends, fishing, gardening, and holiday travelling. I try to help my family wherever possible when we embark on various projects within each other’s households, recently I have been helping install a new kitchen for my mum at home and previously we have all got together to refurbish my brother’s first house.
Looking to the future, I hope to be successful in buying my own first house within the next year, and I am working hard to make that reality. I am confident that I am committed enough to take on such a responsibility.
I also wish to see more of the world during my holiday time. I have seen a lot of it so far but there is so much more I would like to see.
